Statement
I create a wide range of works—installations, sculptures, and more—based on the concept of the duality of things, using diverse materials such as resin, fabric, ceramics, wood, light, glass, and others.
In my recent works, I explore new possibilities for ceramics under the theme of "art and culture in a future where space travel is a part of everyday life." I imagine throwing lumps of clay from space toward Earth, where they are fired by the heat of atmospheric re-entry. Using plastic materials like FRP, I aim to blur the boundaries between sculpture and craft, transforming this fantasy into physical form.
I envision a future where people casually go to space, and the clay they drop returns to Earth as diverse ceramic forms. The temperature during space shuttle re-entry exceeds 1500°C—over 200°C higher than the typical firing temperature of ceramics. At such extreme heat, metal can melt, surfaces may begin to shine or foam like lava, and shapes may distort due to air resistance. These transformations represent expressions in which opposing elements—accident and inevitability—coexist.
The visual inspiration behind this concept comes from the flame-style Jomon pottery. Its unusual form feels almost as if it had fallen from space. Imagining the future also means reimagining the past. At the intersection of tradition and innovation, I strive to shape a new concept of ceramics that no one has ever attempted before.
モノゴトの二面性をコンセプトに、樹脂、布、やきもの、木材、光、ガラス、その他のさまざまな素材を用いて、インスタレーションや彫刻などの幅広い表現で制作しています。
最近の作品は、「人が宇宙に当たり前のように行ける未来の芸術文化」というテーマをもとに、やきものの新たな可能性を表現します。宇宙から地球に向かって粘土を投げ落とし、大気圏突入時の熱で焼成した陶芸をプラスチック素材を用いて彫刻と工芸を領域横断するように表現しています。人々が地球に落とした粘土が多彩なやきものとして地上に降り注ぐという妄想を形にします。
スペースシャトルの大気圏再突入時の温度は1500度以上で、これは陶芸の焼成温度の200度以上高い温度です。高温で金属が溶け、輝いたり、発泡した溶岩のような質感を生み出したり、空気抵抗によって形が変化することも考えられます。これらは偶然と必然という相反する要素が共存する表現です。そのイメージの源には縄文土器の火焔式土器があります。その異形さは、まるで宇宙から落ちてきた器のようです。未来を想像することは、同時に過去を想像し直すことで、伝統と未来が交差する地点で、これまで誰も試みたことのない陶芸の新たなコンセプトを形にします。
